The Brad Cameron Mulemanship
Clinic is a popular event that is designed specifically for the
saddle mule. Mule people are very excited to learn from someone
who truly knows and understands mules. Brad and Shari started
their Mulemanship Clinics in 1994, literally by request, and
have carried them on by popular demand. Brad has found that the
traditional, mechanical methods which rely on fear and intimidation
no longer apply to mules. Brad's clinics give mule owners a chance
to learn a better and more effective way of handling their animal
based on an understanding of the mules mind. Brad's gentle communication
process opens a willing mind which creates a willing partner.
The popularity of the Mulemanship Clinics has grown to the point
that Brad and Shari now spend six months of the year on the road.
The Mulemanship Clinics run on a three day format (Friday,
Saturday, & Sunday) with a mule colt starting class in the
mornings and the mulemanship class in the afternoons. Participants
bring their mules and work in a group as well as one on one with
Brad.
The Cameron's Mulemanship Clinic was the featured event at
the 1997 Great Celebration Mule Show in Shelbyville, Tennessee
sponsored by Saddle Mule News Magazine, and it has also been
selected as a qualifying event for the American Donkey and Mule
Society Versatility Award Program. The Cameron clinics and training
techniques were featured articles in the November and December
1999 issues of Western Horseman Magazine.
Mule Colt Class
This class is designed for young mules to be started under saddle
or younger mules that need groundwork. Brad will start all the
colts on Friday morning with groundwork and saddling. He will
demonstrate the different ways to work the colts in preparation
for saddling and riding. You will see Brad work the colts on
his mule, as well as on the ground to show the different ways
to approach each training goal. He will explain the different
attitudes displayed by each colt and show how certain behaviors,
if not corrected, could present problems in the future. After
the initial work, clinic participants will begin working with
their own colts under Brad's careful guidance. On Sunday each
person will ride their own colt for the first time. Everyone
will take home with them the beginning basics of good mulemanship
to progress their colt into fine saddle mules.
Mulemanship Class
The Mulemanship class is for mules that can be saddled and ridden.
The class is designed for those who want to improve their riding
skills and enhance their mules ability. Brad will show you ways
to produce a soft, supple, and responsive animal that is balanced
and sensitive to your cues. This class is designed for individual
attention to everyone, regardless of your skill level. The mulemanship
class is a must for anyone interested in improving the skills
and the understanding needed to create an exceptional saddle
mule. The results achieved will benefit the participants long
after the clinic is over.
